I build teams that build tech
Innovative tech for Sony, Netflix, and startups.
LendZen is a real-time mortgage app that offers fully transparent rates and fees that are the actual rates and fees you pay if you use them as a mortgage lender. No need to provide an email, phone number, or subject yourself to any kind of marketing to get real rates immediately.
A client just launched LendZen.com, a mortgage lending platform that emphasizes anonymity and automation, removing humans from the entire mortgage shopping experience.
Customers can shop for a mortgage with full transparency, getting a complete cost analysis based on real-time nationwide rates.
All of this is accessible instantly and anonymously, without providing any personal contact information.
We worked with the bank’s founders to refine their vision and build the app, ensuring they retained full control.
Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” website was crashing under international traffic load! Reduced hosting costs 80% and improved speed for Netflix. Increased scalability for this important multinational, multilingual website and added content flexibility.
Neato Robotics was launching a new line of robots, using new APIs, and wanted a secure support tool that would use single sign on embedded in Zendesk. Created standalone middleware to maximize API security. Supported multiple APIs to handle heterogeneous robot APIs.
What if you were in Miami and wanted to find Kenny Chesney’s new Pineapple Cream Rum? We built a customized plugin to allow fans to find their rum of choice by state, city, or zip code! Locations are updated from an inventory CSV that can be uploaded to keep the site current.
When a Kenny Chesney fan found out their favorite country artist’s rum was available, through his various creative campaigns and tours, fans often found sourcing the beverage challenging. The Chesney team needed an easy to use Rum Finder.
This project showcased our ability to partner with a client to solve complex data problems with reporting tools that didn’t want to talk to each other. Their sales reporting tool would export a CSV file that included all their locations and how much inventory they had on the shelves based on sales and delivery records. We found that we needed to tweak the application to provide a “best guess” of likelihood a user would find their preferred flavor of Chesney’s rum based on math we updated from customer feedback.
The app provided a simple way for fans to find their favorite flavors, reliably!
The island nation of Turks & Caicos faced a significant economic impact due to the shutdown of the tourism industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. To address the challenge of tracking exposure while respecting privacy and security, our team developed a innovative solution.
* Plan app to safely reintroduce travel to Turks and Caicos
* Prototype app to support government and private sector needs
* Deploy app for demo to regulators
* Pivot app to meet changes in strategy
* Assisted over $100M in island revenue
COVID ravaged the Turks and Caicos islands, and TCI Safe facilitated tens of thousands of vacationers visit the island through insurance, guidance, and an informative native app generating over $100 million in island revenue.
Working with the TCI Safe team, first for an app to eliminate privacy problems with infection tracking and later securing simplified safe and compliant travel to the island.
My team created a customer application that utilized QR codes to record the locations visited by tourists during their stay. Only in the event of potential infection exposure, the user would be flagged as 'Risk' and notified, allowing the hotel to advise them to self-quarantine until they could be tested and cleared for travel.
Leveraging a scalable Node.js API based service, the system calculated proximity risks based on voluntary check-ins and incorporated credential verification hooks for government officials. By prioritizing user privacy and ensuring their locations remained undisclosed, we provided a secure and effective tracking solution.
The Pivot
Although the government opted for a different strategy, we repurposed the application to assist travelers in finding legally required insurance, generating over $100 million in revenue for the island's tourism industry. Our team successfully navigated the complexities of this project, from initial planning and development to pivoting and managing scale.
I helped Zarfo launch RWND as a Product Manager, helping the team focus on innovation and product launches. RWND was cool enough Facebook copied it with Boomerang and RWND achieved traction in Asia before TikTok.
Our team built the prototype 3 weeks and launched publicly a mere 4 weeks later.
We launched 4 apps rapid fire, as the startup ran low on funds. When RWND took off in Asia, VCs in Australia (our headquarters) didn't see value in its traction and were concerned when Facebook released Boomerang with very similar features and branding.
Our thesis was that "tricks" or filters and very short form social entertainment would catch on.
I believe TikTok proves we were right. We had a great product, good traction, and just ran out of runway. I learned that I should go with my gut and that competitors copying you is a signal that you may be onto something.
I have extensive experience in ISP management, having successfully managed an ISP from 1997 to 2000. During this time I worked closely with systems administrators and tech support professionals to support our customers from dialup to ISDN. Through strategic planning and technical expertise, I was able to solve problems and increase profits while competing against larger companies. My ambition and dedication have enabled me to develop a wide range of skills, from troubleshooting to team leadership.
I was privileged to be at the forefront of the digital music and merchandising age with BubbleUp.
* Celebrity branded direct to consumer ecommerce
* Always up platform administration
* Bare metal to cloud devops
As their early full time Technology Director, I was responsible for crafting the core infrastructure and developing the web-based systems that propelled the company’s success. It was a thrilling challenge to build robust, reliable, and secure systems to power their rapidly expanding business, and I take pride in the products and services I helped create. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for problem-solving, I laid the groundwork for the launch of brands like Margaritaville Stores and Mailboat Records, and ultimately helped transform BubbleUp into a leading digital player.
